Mayo Hired as Director of Program Services

The NWCA is pleased to announce the hiring of Dan Mayo as Director of Program Services and Development effective May 1, 2010.

Mayo will be working very closely with the high school and college community to promote and distribute the NWCA products and services. He will also be working with Executive Director, Mike Moyer, to expand the NWCA fundraising base.

“One of the primary responsibilities for Dan Mayo will be the implementation of a nationally standardized high school/college scoring and webcasting system for wrestling,” said NWCA President, Jim Beichner.  “Through Dan’s efforts, the goal is to position wrestling to be much more of a spectator and media friendly sport.    In doing so, we believe wrestling will receive unprecedented media exposure which, in turn, will go a long way in helping us to grow the spectator base.”

Mayo comes to the NWCA after having a successful career in Business Development and Sales. He has proven track record in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Financial Industry, and Construction Development.  He will now be turning that experience to the sport of wrestling.

Not only does he have an extensive business background but he also has an impressive wrestling background.  Growing up on Long Island, New York, Mayo was a New York State Champion and a Junior National Champion before heading to Penn State University to wrestle for Coach Rich Lorenzo.

During his career at Penn State, he was a two-time All-American, placing third and second respectively. In 1992 and 1994, he was a member of Team USA at 198 pounds.

“I am excited to work with Mike Moyer and the rest of the NWCA staff; I believe it will be a great experience. This opportunity provides me a chance to give back to a sport that has given so much to me over the years.  Promoting and growing the sport throughout the United States is imperative. We need to be spreading the right message of educating our youth. We want them to graduate from high school and/or college and succeed in the workplace.”

He will be working remotely from his office in Princeton, New Jersey and can be reached by email at dmayo@nwca.cc or by phone at 717-725-7622.
