Rutgers Wrestling Drops Millersville
Extend Winning Streak to Five

(New Brunswick, NJ) - The Rutgers University Wrestling team (7-3) defeated  Millersville University (6-7) 34-6, tonight at the College Avenue Gymnasium.  With the victory, Rutgers extends its winning streak to five consecutive  matches dating back to a tri-meet on February 12 versus Franklin & Marshall,  Coppin State and Syracuse.

Rutgers opened the meet winning the first two matches as freshman 141-pounder  Greg Austin (Seaville, NJ) and 149-pound senior captain Jon Forster  (Minotola, NJ) won by major decisions. Austin (24-9; 5-3 dual meets) defeated  Millersville's Josh Miller, 13-5 and Forster bested Jesse Reed 8-0 giving the  Scarlet Knights a quick 8-0 team score advantage. Forster, currently ranked  second in the EIWA, raised his season mark to 31-10 and 8-2 in dual meets. 

Millersville responded winning the next two matches. At 157-pounds, junior  Shane Engel-Folks (Washington, NJ) battled blood throughout the match due to  a first period laceration over the eye, but dropped a 5-1 decision to Alan  Grasso. Sophomore Bryon Lauer (Belvidere, NJ) was shutout by Andy Cote,  Millersville's leader in wins this season, 6-0. 

Junior Justin Haskins (Cliffwood Beach, NJ) followed at 174-pounds with an  impressive 18-2 technical fall of Craig Pequinot at 6:44, improving his  record to 28-12 on the season (6-4 in dual meets). At 184-pounds, junior Tom Tanis (Oak Ridge, NJ) followed by winning his fifth consecutive match scoring  a 5-2 decision over Adam Schaaf, raising his record to 12-6 (6-3 dual meets).

Scarlet Knight freshman 197-pounder Craig Buckley (Hingham, MA) continued the  winning ways for Rutgers by defeating Joe Garfinkel 6-0. Sophomore  heavyweight Frank Sabatino (Hazlet, NJ) then pinned Tyler Woolever at 2:50.

The freshman tandem of Ryan Brennan (Randolph, NJ) and Jeff Beverly (Point  Pleasant, NJ) closed out the meet for Rutgers with victories. Brennan  defeated Omar Porrata 4-3, while Beverly pinned Kris Hoff at 2:11.

The Scarlet Knight close out their 2000 home wrestling season on Thursday,  February 24 versus Drexel at the College Avenue Gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m..
