Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler for the 2005 Season
THAD BENTON - PENNSYLVANIA COLLEGIATE WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
At the conclusion of each college wrestling season, WrestlingReport.com selects its Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year. This annual recognition goes to a wrestler who is both a Pennsylvania native and competed for a Pennsylvania college.
Today, Bruce Closson, owner of WrestlingReport.com, announced that the Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year for the 2005 season is Thad Benton, a junior from Claysburg, who competed this season at 141 pounds for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Mr. Benton won the 2005 NCAA Division II title, going 4-0 at the NCAA Tournament, including a 9-4 win over his Nebraska-Omaha opponent in the finals. In winning the national crown, Benton led Pitt-Johnstown to an excellent fourth-place finish at the Division II NCAA Tournament. Thad Benton completed the 2005 season with a record of 30-5, including 16 pins.
Congratulations to Thad Benton, WrestlingReport.com's Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestler of the Year for 2005. Past winners of this WrestlingReport.com recognition were: Edinboro University's Josh Koscheck for the 2001 wrestling season; Lehigh University team mates Rob Rohn and Jon Trenge (tie vote) for 2002; and Lehigh University's Troy Letters, both for 2003 and for 2004.
